Civil rights activist Dick Gregory, who is known for his activism during the Civil Right Movement and Vietnam War, has died at the age of 84.
Gregory died August 19, 2017, a post on his Instagram made by his son states that the comedian and activist died in Washington D.C.
Gregory was taken to the hospital after feeling sick on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. He was evaluated, treated and then released. However, on Saturday, August 12, 2017, the 85-year-old showed little signs of improvement and was readmitted to the hospital.
The family released the following statement,”It is with enormous sadness that the Gregory family confirms that their father, comedic legend and civil rights activist Mr. Dick Gregory departed this earth tonight in Washington, DC. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and love and respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.
